The Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine (VTCSOM) has named Josh Meyer as its director of communications.
A Virginia Tech alumnus, Meyer joins VTCSOM after more than two decades of experience in higher education communications and journalism. His main goal with the school is to help it continue to grow as an innovative leader in transforming medical education by telling its story to the Roanoke-Blacksburg region and beyond.
“We are excited to have Josh join the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine and help us elevate the message of how we are developing physician thought-leaders of tomorrow,” said Lee Learman, dean of VTCSOM. “Josh’s knowledge of higher education and his connections to the region will facilitate our continued progress.”
Meyer brings a strong background in higher education marketing and communications. He was most recently the director of marketing and strategic communications for Virginia Western Community College in Roanoke for nearly 11 years. Previously, he worked at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, as well as at newspapers such as The Raleigh News & Observer and The Roanoke Times.
“As a Roanoke native and a proud Hokie, I am thrilled to join the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine,” said Meyer. “I have enthusiastically watched as the school has made a profound impact upon our community, and I’m grateful to have a chance to support its important mission.”
Meyer earned his bachelor’s degree in communication from Virginia Tech and a master’s degree in journalism with a focus on public relations from the University of North Carolina.
